These instructions assume that you are running Apple iOS 7 or greater on the iPhone 5. These instructions show you how to connect to Beats Pill XL speakers to your iPhone 5. Pairing the iPhone 5 to a Beats Pill XL using Bluetooth

  1. The following instructions describe how to pair the iPhone 5 with a Beats Pill XL. First turn on the Beats Pill XL by pressing and releasing the power button, hold the 'b' logo for three seconds until the LED blinks. This indicates that the Beats Pill XL is in pairing mode and ready to connect to the iPhone 5.
  2. From the home screen on the iPhone 5 open the Settings control panel, then go to the Bluetooth menu and make sure the Bluetooth option is turned on.
  3. Underneath select Beats Pill XL from the list of nearby devices to connect to the iPhone, it will then say "Paired" next to the name of the device.
  4. You can now play music on a Beats Pill XL wirelessly from the iPhone 5. Tapping on the AirPlay icon in any iOS application which plays audio will bring up a list of devices where you will be able to toggle between headphones, the loudspeaker and a Beats Pill XL. When the Bluetooth speaker has been paired the round 'b' button will stop flashing and glow. Next time you can turn on the Bluetooth speaker and it will automatically connect to the iPhone 5 without needing to pair again, simply turn both devices on and wait for the round 'b' button to light up. The Beats Pill can store up to 8 devices, when first turned on it will attempt to connect with the most recent Bluetooth device. Playing audio on a Beats Pill XL from the iPhone 5 using a stereo phone cable

  1. These instructions show you how to connect the iPhone 5 to a Beats Pill XL using a cable to play audio. Locate the headphone socket on the foot of the iPhone 5.
  2. Turn the speaker around so the back is facing you ensuring the power is switched off.
  3. Access the IN port by pulling out and rotating the rubber port cover to the left of the 'beats pill xl' logo. The IN port is located between the power and OUT ports.
  4. Connect the headphone socket on the iPhone 5 to the IN on the Beats Pill XL port using a 3.5mm stereo male to 3.5mm stereo male cable [4].
  5. Any audio from the iPhone 5 will stop playing on the phone speaker and play on a Beats Pill XL instead.
  6. Turn on the speaker and you should hear music playing from the iPhone 5 to the Beats Pill XL. You can now play audio on a Beats Pill XL from the iPhone 5. [AD]
